HAI capabilities

Hi -

I've been researching Elk and HAI, and I think I want to go with HAI Omni Pro II...

here are my requirements, all of which i think can be done with the OPII.

Utilize my existing security system wiring using the OmniPro II (20A00-8) and the OmniPro II Expansion Enclosure (17A00-1).
Monitor/open/close garage doors - use some sort of relay switchs to monitor open/close state and control the doors
Notification/communicate with front doorbell so when doorbell is pushed, whole house audio is muted and an announcment is made. i can pick up phone and talk to front door.
Notification of incoming phone calls, so i can mute whole house audio and broadcast caller id or custom announcment
2 way audio communication with the house: Two-Way Voice Module(10A11-1)
Integration with Nuvo Essential whole house audio for above three scenarios
Monitor IP security cameras
Rain8 irrigation control (UPB/Serial/Ethernet)
Lighting control (UPB?)
Thermostat control
Temperature/Humidity sensors
Touchscreen support
Custom programming support/write my own software... serial or ethernet?

Is this all going to be possible with the HAI OmniPro II?

thanks,
chris

Yes, I believe all that can be done with the HAI OPII.

If you're doing it yourself, figure out the details before buying any equipment. While you're at it, figure out the cost of doing all of that. That's a tremendous amount of stuff to integrate. It's not for the faint of heart, or faint of wallet.

Pros are paid a lot of money, for good reason. It takes years to learn all this stuff, and you have to enjoy doing it.

Also, how easy is it to run new wires in your house? Attic above, unfinished basement below?

Edit - Neurorad and I are on the same track today. I was halfway through a detailed response to each item when I saw that he'd slipped in ahead of me again. :)

The only issue I see is that CID announcement is not part of the Omni's functionality, so whille it can respond to the doorbell and issue a mute command, you'll need something else to actually speak the CID info unless you just want a generic "phone call" type of announcement.

Also, while it is possible to develop your own apps to speak to the Omni, it's not really intended for the DIY crowd to do so and is a fairly complex process to do so.

See my comments in your other post as to whether the expansion enclosure is actually needed to accomplish what you want.

I've read here on Cocoontech that some people use a whole-house control solution to provide the caller ID feature - CQC, Girder, HomeSeer, etc.

I bet there is a standalone product, though, that solves this problem, providing a direct input to the audio amp.

Member ano has HAI, and does voice announcement - search his posts, or PM him.
