PC Access/OPII and windows 8.1 help please

I was able to get PCA and Snaplink running here on the W81 touchscreen.  I removed it and reinstalled and updated it.  I was using updated version earlier today; just didn't work.

This is a connection to the HAI demo server.

Personally the endeavor was a PITA.  I would suggest a USB XP boot stick with persistence and installing PCA on it or cleaning the XP machine.

(run combofix (free) a couple of times on it, spyboot (free))

Here running PCA on my Ubuntu 64 bit laptop just fine these days.

I was able to wire it direct with 8.1, change the controller IP to whatever the autoconfig gave me and connect. At least I can program from office now. Snaplink will have to wait.
Not sure why it won't connect through the router. Will take more investigating.

Good news DTG173!

Yup; here have HAI used devices crisscrossing three networks these days.  Windows 8.1 has added much protection and changed much relating to the old network stuff and its buried in many layers / clicks for the users own good(?).  The network interface on the OPII is first generation NIC.  With the last OPII firmware upgrade they did do some tweaking of the network stuff on the panel.

Personally I would still tweak out the topology of the network as defined by your router.  IE: your entire subnet is currently defined to provide dynamic IP addressing (DHCP).  Adding a static IP address inside of the scope of DHCP range can cause issues.  Here like you utilize much of the DHCP for wireless devices although I do have a few wireless automation tablets today using static addressing.

The Upstart program does most of the work for the UPB switches.  The set up in the OPII panel just manages what you already have set up.  It is pretty fast once all configured.

Curious how you like your Sprint Airave box?

Many years ago my first fast internet connection (concurrent with DSL) was provided by Sprint wireless. It was much faster than the 256kbps (128X2)  speeds that I got with DSL at the time.

Yes, it definitely seems like a lot of work to get around the new windows and even try to set up networks between versions, ie: ME/XP/8.1..

I will work on the router when I have a day next week to mess around with it, and likely figure out how to get the OPII to be a part of "homegroup" network. The goal is to possibly be able to one day use Snap link. For now I am happy to be able to set up my OPII programs with PCA 3.14

The Airave was added at no cost by Sprint because I am in a dead spot and threatened to leave them for lack of coverage. It definitely works for the cell phones.

I thank you again for your assistance with this Pete. I will be around here for a while and will hopefully be able to help someone else, as you have me, along the way.

Yup many changes from WIndows 3.11 for workgroups to now Windows 10 (well MS has done a quick change from W81 to W10 in the last few months).

Once you have your panel configured with PCA; you never need to really look at it; similarly to using Upstart to configure your UPB.

Pete so it looks like I am in the same boat as this other guy. dya before yesterday everything was working just fine for me .  I got home yesterday and went to connect my pc to my panel and got nothing.

I have check the network connects lights are on in the panel.
I have checked the switch that the panel is connected to ,by plugging in my computer to that switch directly and it work. I have also check the port that I am using I it say that the port is closed .
I am running windows 10 and PC access 3.15 .
 what do i do

Something may have changed on your firewall.  Easiest way to test is to utilize a port scanner external to your home network.

If it works fine internally then all you have to do is check your firewall settings.

There are a few out there.  Googling found this one:

incloak

Next check your firewall settings to allow TCP/UDP port 4369 access.  Note that 4369 is the default management port for the OmniPro panel.

You can change that with PCA if you want.

What specific mfg / model of router are you using?

My modem is a motorola 6141 and my router is netgear. So what I did was this morning I connected my laptop to the modem directly and attempted to scan 1000 ports. All the responses were not responding or closed. I have made no change to my firewall in the last 30 day and the system was working just fine when I used my phone to remotely arm the house

My modem is a Motorola 6141 and my router is Netgear.

Yup here have same modem.

What model Netgear router do you have?

You can only test the SB6141 modem via the internet for PCA access.  Inside network port will provide you internet access.

IE:

Telephone ==> Internet ==> SB6141 ==> Netgear Router ==> OmniPro 2 panel and any PC or laptop on your home network.

Home PC or laptop ==> OmniPro 2 (it is a direct connection when you are at home using your home network).

What you to do is do a port scan on your internet access via a PC inside your home network.

Just do a what is my internet address on a laptop inside of your network.  Write it down.  Then do a port scan on that IP.

After this is done and you have validated that the HAI port is not open or open then you can proceed to adjust the firewall.

Are you using dynamic DNS for your home internet IP address?

To test tether your laptop to your cell phone running PCA you should be able to access your OP2 panel from the internet.

This will validate your cell phone connection to your OP2 panel.

I know what my isp ip address is. I  used that address to go to scan port 4369 and it said it's closed. So then I used a port scanner and gave it a range of ports to scan. using my modem ip address and attached directly to my modem, all 1000 ports came back as closed or not responding.

So I did do the mobile hot spot thing but ,not sure how that will give me access to to myop2 panel beause the port needs to be on the same network as my computer and it is not.

Do I connect the panel to my computer via cat5 then

Also I keep getting connection time out error 10060

If you want to check the OP2 network port connection; yes.

You mentioned earlier that the PC / PCA connection worked fine in your home and you just couldn't get  to it outside of home cellular connection.

The mobile hotspot / pca to your OP2 should have worked.

1 - Test first if your network port is working fine on the OP2
2 -  then test your laptop or cell phone wirelessly connected to your home network
3 - if #1 and #2 work then we have to look at your router.  What model number is it?  Log in to your router and check the firewall configuration for the OP2 panel.

This is the model for the netgear WNDR3400v2

Sorry Pete I think you miss understood something from and earlier message. I am not able to get to the panel from even in my  home. Since this issue started yesterday it has been impossible to get a  connection. I am not sure how connecting my phone to the PC will let me connect to the op2 panel . The panel is wired into a which that is then wired into my router. For the router I have nothing setup in terms of security or firewall.

Have you been able to utilize PC Access to program you panel?  Are the OP2 leds blinking by the network port?

Can you ping the IP address of the OP2 with any PC/Laptop on the network?

Using your Netgear Router Manager (Smartwizard), on the LAN Setup page is your OP2 set up with a reserved static address?  And, is it shown on the Attached Devices page?

Thanks guys for al the help. I was able to solve the issue. Yesterday I plugged the stuff in for my nuvo into the panel something witht he ethernet line did not go well it would cause the panel to go offline. Once I disconnected it I was good.
